Using WinXP-SP2 and IE7 to display my stock portfolio.
Exact URL is:
http://moneycentral.msn.com/stock_portfolio

I sold a stock and updated this portfolio with the sale.
It transferred the proceeds of the sale to the "Cash$" account
line of the portfolio.
In reality, I actually wire transferred the proceeds into my bank so now the
CASH$ account display is overstated and overstates the "Market Value" of the
entire portfolio.

Problem:
I cannot find a way to reduce the value of the CASH$ account line item.
Right clicking on this line item yields a small menu:

"See Account Settings
New Account
Rename
Delete Account
Quote Detail <<-(grayed out)
Update Prices Now"

Non of these, when followed, lead to an option to change the dollar value of
the CASH$ account.
It seems to me there is a missing option from days past.

Conversely, when I right click on a equity line item I get a much larger menu,
including:
Record a Buy
Record a Sell
Record a Transaction

QUESTION: How can I reduce the CASH$ account value to match reality ?

Thanks,
JIM

RightClick on Account Name and then Account Settings. You probably have
Cash Transactions clicked. Unclick it which clears the cash figure. Then
click it again and enter the correct dollars. It's about the only way I ever
could make a cash change which isn't correct.

Thanks FrankV. I indeed had "Follow cash transactions" checked.
I followed your advise and the "CASH$" line item, which was the bottom
line below all my equity stock lines, disappeared.

So I right clicked on the portfolio title line (top line item: "Active
Holdings & Equities-1"), selected "Account Settings" then
"Active Holdings & Equities-1 CASH$", checked "Follow cash transactions"
and inserted the correct cash amount then clicked "Done"

This action yields an error message:
titled: MICROSOFT MONEY.
"AN ERROR OCCURRED, BUT MONEY RAN OUT OF MEMORY WHILE TRYING
TO RETRIEVE AND DISPLAY DETAILS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED."

Wondering...Is this referring to the MoneyCentral server or my computer ?
I have 2Gb memory installed.
Is the server in trouble ?

Thanks,
JIM

I do not think it is a server problem because I use this procedure quite
often. It also is not a problem with 2Gb Memory because I have been doing
this with much less ram. I see your problem with that error. I would guess
it is Money. Which version do you have installed? I stay with 2002 which I
use only as a "just-in-case" backup for moneycentral. As far as I am
concerned moneycentral is much better for me because all I want is a stock
portfolio and am not interested in the additional junk in Money.

On Microsoft web search for "An error occurred" and you will find many. You
should be able to find one similar to this.

Thanks Frank. I checked over 300 postings. None directly related to this
particular error message, however, one gave me a hint. "Spyware".
I turned off PC-cillin and was able to create a new CASH$ account with a
new cash value. It now displays as a line item at the bottom as before.
Turned PC-cillin ON again and everything works OK now.
Lesson: Turn spyware off when creating a new account or manually changing value.
Thanks for your help and follow-up.
Salute !
JIM
