When I assign a category to a downloaded checking transaction for budget
expenses the next time I download current transactions from the bank it uses
the last highlighted category on all the transactions. How do I stop this
auto deal?

If your problem stems from a generic "payee" such as "check" etc
being assigned a category, you would want to use the Payee Rules
Manager to cause such fake Payees from being used as payees.
If that is the case, I can provide more info. If it is not what you
want, I don't know that you can.
The group for Microsoft Money is microsoft.public.money. If you use
the MS web interface, they call that "Money General". |

The categories are groceries, automobile-gasoline, utilities, travel etc. and
the last categorie used is the one that gets assigned to the next bank
download of transactions so I have to re-assian all of them. Thanks

Let me try again.
Suppose the last *Payee* you assigned to such a transaction is
ABCDEFG.
Go to
Banking->AccountTools->Categories&Payees->Payees->PreferredPayeeNames
which shows how downloaded names are translated into Payees.
Record the Payee Name Variation(s) shown for ABCDEFG. Delete
the entries that are not necessarily ABCDEFG.
Then click on GoToPayeeRulesManager. Excluded Payee Names
identifies words and phrases that should be ignored from the payee
field (e.g., check, deposit). Add each word or phrase that were
listed as a Payee Name Variation that you recorded.
While you are at it, it is usually a good idea to select
Tools->Settings->OnlineServices->ReplacePayeeNames....
You may want to set
Tools->Settings->OnlineServices->AddADescriptionToTheMemoField
Now, yes, change the categories. But presumably you won't have the
same problem later.
