I frequently shop with my mother-in-law and include her
purchases on my credit card. When I record the expense in
Money, I use the expense category "Lari's charges". When
she pays me back, I'd like the deposit to be recorded as a
credit to that expense category (making the net amount
zero, as it truly is), but instead, it shows up as another
debit, doubling the amount in that category. How can I
accomplish what I need?

Simply change the amount by inserting a negative sign and the debit will
show as a credit

That changes the balance of my account and makes it
incorrect. The dollar amount is correct, it's the way
Money posts it to the category that isn't working as I'd
planned. I post the deposit to an expense category, so
Money assumes it's a debit (an expense) when what I need
it to be is a credit. I'm obviously just doing the wrong
thing.

For example:
I write a check for $100 and it's posted as a debit to my
checking account. I enter it in Money as the expense
category "Lari's charges." A few weeks later, she gives me
a check for the $100 and I deposit it to my checking
account. It shows up in Money (correctly) as a credit, and
I post it to the expense category "Lari's charges." Money
asks me if I mean to post this income as an expense, and I
say "yes", hoping it will post the amount as a credit to
the category, making this expense account a net zero, but
it posts it as another debit. Now the expense
category "Lari's charges" shows a total of $200, not zero.
My expense category is incorrect, although my checking
account balance is right. When I look at my monthly
reports, they are incorrect, too. How can I fix this?

Thanks for your help!
