|

I have used this program for years but continue to have difficulty restoring
files. I use two computers in different locations and want to take my
working file from one, download to a memory stick and then restore it to the
other. When I use the "restore" function, I can get the file to open, but
then when I close it, and open again, it often opens the previous file. I
need to know how to ensure the the backup file becomes the primary working
file and get rid of all the rest. Please help.

The file stored on the web is the primary file, all others are backup and
only loaded if the web service is unavailable.
If you wish to restore a file from a local file, you will replace the
contents on the web until exit, then the web file will become the primary
and used on either machine upon next access.
Note: This forum is for moneycentral the web based money instead of the
retail version of Money.

I don't use the web at all. I have disabled the web connection. I enter
everything manually. So if I do that, how do I locate the actual working
file and replace it with the one I have on the memory media?

The group for Microsoft Money is microsoft.public.money. If you use
the MS web interface, they call that "Money General".
The Microsoft Money data file is a *.mny file. |

Its been my experience across three machines that to force the change of the
default location an mbf file(backup file) first needs to be
restored which will create a new mny file created in the location the user
wishes. i.e. a new local file for use.
If portability of the file is necessary(from machine to machine) the mbf
and mny file needs to be stored in the same identical path location on each
machine
(i.e. same computer name\username\documents etc. location)
Unless the above is done, and barring any other constraints, Its very likely
that each machine will append its own unique suffix to both the mbf and mny
filenames prior to the file's extension.
