|
|
I had a PC crash and have re-loaded onto a new disk. I am trying to load the
backup Monry file into money but it tells me I have to enter a password. The
file is not password protected - I have checked this using password recovery
programs.
Does anyone know the answer to this one please?
Cheers.

Thanks for that. I am using the same version but it might have been
automatically updated on the old disc - I will try and see if it needs
updating and try again.

Hi
Considerably older - it is Money 2000! Not had much success in finding any
updates so might have to get Money 2005 and hope that can open it!
Thanks for your help.

Tried that - I don't have an *mn8 file. We loaded version 8 on so I do not
understand why it cannot open a file it created.

Older versions of Money give that odd error message when you try to
open a file created with a newer version. You need the same or newer
version of Money from the same country that your file was created
with.
The UK group for Microsoft Money is microsoft.public.uk.money. If
you use the MS web interface, they call that "Money General". |

You are not going to believe this one - we have just a while ago realised
that we have loaded the wrong version of money! That is the trouble with
having a zillion PCs in the house - this is the newest one and had in fact
been Money 2002. We have now loaded the correct version and the file opened
OK.
Thanks very much for all your help. It won't be wasted because these posts
may be useful to someone else who has the problem!!!!
Thanks Cal very much.

If you are using Money 2005, check that your version is
14.0.120.1105. If it is not, then open the Sample.mny file in your
install folder, or create a new empty file without a Passport (click
Decline). Let Money apply the update. Then your file should open.
If your version is older than 2005, then perhaps you tried the Money
2005 trial that converted your file. In that case, Money 2005 would
have left a backup on your drive of how the file existed at time of
conversion. |

Yes. I don't think the trial is currently available, but that should
work the same if so.
Also, check your drive to see if there is a *.mn8 file. If so, note
the date. That would have been created during conversion to a newer
version.
If it exists, check the date to see how recent that is. Copy that to
MG.mny, and Money 2000 should be able to open it. |

Well, if you do use Money 2005 to convert the file, you can tell by
the extension of the backup what version Money 2005 says it was that
it converted.
Here is a table:
Ext Version
m14 2005
m12 2004
m11 2003
m10 2002
mn9 2001
mn8 2000
mn7 99
mn6 98
mn5 97 |

If you are in the US you might want to consider getting M2006.

In that case M2006 isn't available. The latest version we have is M2005.

I am new to vista and I am having difficulty in transferring my money file
from my xp machine to this one. The error I get is that "an update is
availabl but I must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group.
Log off Windows, and then log back on as a member of the Administrators
group. Restart this program to install the update." I have tried this for
days now without success. I would point out I am the ONLY user on the pc!
I have no idea how to correct this problem so any help would be very much
obliged.
Thank you

For Money 2005 and 2006, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929427
Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that
you will have full privileges to, such as Documents/MyDocuments.
If they are in a place like ProgramFiles, Vista will create an
impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user
explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator
that time.
Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox may be in
IE Tools->InternetOptions->Advanced.
Right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdmistrator to let
updates happen. Then reboot the computer. Check that the Money
2007 version is 16.0.*.1303.
