Has the 8/17 update completed? I have been unable to pull up my portfolio
even after trying all steps involved. The program pmupdate.exe keeps running
in memory even with firewall off temporarily. Help!

At which point specifically is it failing?
Did you get the "vistamessage":
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/controls/vistamessage.asp and where
those the "steps involved" that you completed to remove moneycentral from
your Trusted Sites list?

I had to click on the "yellow" bar at the top of the page twice to let the
"ActiveX" controls install/run.

Yes I got the Vista message and followed the steps. I then get box that
toolbox is being installed. webinst.exe and pmupdate.exe load to memory, but
keep running without completion. If I try to reinstall toolbox, I get message
that toolbox is being installed or updated-once completed you will be able to
use toolbox. But it never completes.

Try removing and reinstalling.
Close IE
Go into Control Panel and remove the MSN Money Investment Toolbox
The relaunch IE and go to the Portfolio.
It should prompt you to either choose or it may start installing
automatically.

If it actually defaults to the "Basic" Portfolio, use the 'upgrade' link at
the top to upgrade to the Toolbox version.

I can't remove because the installation never completes. also at the webpage
to install toolbox, the opening message is "Please follow these instructions
to download the MSN Money Investment Toolbox or the latest update from
Friday, May 13, 2005." should it not reference the 8/17 update?

Have you tried what I suggested?
1. Close your browser.
2. Go to Windows' Control Panel and unistall the Toolbox (this should also
remove the reference in the Moneycentral.msn.com cookie that tells the site
that you have the Toolbox installed)
3. Restart your browser and go to the Portfolio.

I am running Vista and since last Friday (the day of the "upgrade") I have
not been able to install the Deluxe version of Toolbox. I have tried all the
suggested fixes and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jon

I cannot remove the investment toolbox because the two installation programs
pmupdate.exe and webinst.exe never complete the installation, therefore the
toolbox never shows in the installed program list. These two programs remain
running in memory and will not allow attempt to reinstall!

Try rebooting the computer.
Then check Control Panel to see if the Toolbox (or Money 2006) is listed.
If either of them are then uninstall them.
Then find and delete the moneycentral.msn.com cookie
Then try to install the "Toolbox" from
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/controls/setup.asp

Be sure to accept any ActiveX prompts. (You may need to also make sure that
any other 'security' software that you have installed/running is not
blocking the download/install)
